This stop on the Tour de Macaron brings me to my favorite spot in Portland (little t american baker), which up until a few weeks ago, didn't even offer macarons. Everything at little t is made to perfection, with the finest ingredients. The prices are so reasonable and the atmosphere is clean, simple and casual. Now that the pastry chef has added macarons to the repertoire of baked goods, I have no reason to ever go anywhere else.
I can say with confidence that these were the best macarons I've had in Portland. Since this is little t's first foray into macarons, there's only one flavor offered at a time. And though I usually appreciate a selection of flavors to choose from, I thought it was smart to just pick one (based on seasonal produce) and do it well. The first flavor was strawberry rhubarb, filled with a strawberry buttercream and fresh rhubarb preserves. The shells were everything I look for in a macaron: not too cold or hard from the refrigerator, soft, melt-in-your-mouth and slightly chewy.
I've been searching for a macaron that contends with Pix Patisserie's, and I should have known that if anyone could do it better, it would be little t. I can't wait to see what other flavors they come up with! I'll be sure to try every one of them.
